Praise and Worship Songs For Any Mood

God loves when we praise him; when we thank him for who he is and all that he has done. And singing praise and worship songs is one of the ways we can give our praise and thanks.

Before we talk about the top praise and worship songs and songs to listen to for any mood, it’s important to understand what worship means and why God wants us to worship him in the first place.

What Does Worship Mean? Why Do We Praise and Worship God?

The Bible talks about worshipping the Lord in several places. These bible verses will help us understand what worship means and the context of how we can worship God.

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” – Romans 12:1

“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.” – John 4:23

“Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.” – Psalm 29:2

“And Jesus answered him, “It is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’” – Luke 4:8

“Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool!” – Psalm 132:7

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!” – Psalm 100:4

We are called to worship God with our lives and to only worship him, not anyone or anything else in our lives.

To worship God means to show our love and adoration for him. To worship means we show respect and honor for God.

When we worship something, we make it the number one priority and focus in our life. We put it high above everything else.

As followers of Christ, we are called to worship only God in our lives and express our love for God through acts of worship.

How To Praise and Worship God?

Choosing to obey God’s commands in the Bible is an act of worship. Choosing to surrender your body, the desires of the flesh, and choosing to stay pure is an act of worship. Laying down your life as a servant to serve God and others around you is an act of worship.

We can show our love and devotion to God in many ways, including singing praise and worship songs.

God calls us to worship him, to honor him with praise and thanks for what he has done for us. There are different ways to worship God; but the purpose of worship is to show God our love and respect for who God is and for what he has done for us.

Praise and Worship Songs Are Just One Way We Worship God

The Bible also talks about how we are called to worship and sing our praises to God. This is why most churches spend time at the beginning of the service in praise and worship.

“Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.” – Hebrews 13:35

“Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth.” – Isaiah 12:5

“Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land…” – Psalm 95:1-6

Praise and Worship Welcomes God’s Presence

When we spend time in praise and worship, a beautiful thing happens. When God hears our praises, we are telling him that we want to be with him. That we love him. That we put our hope and faith in him. And when we worship, it welcomes God’s presence into the atmosphere.

I feel God’s presence the most when I’m singing to him in praise and worship. Standing in my living room, with my eyes closed, arms raised to the heavens – that’s when I feel God’s presence and love the most.

When I feel God’s presence through worship, I feel his love. His peace. Hope. I feel the fire of the Holy Spirit inside of me. Sometimes I hear God’s voice, speaking to me.

Wondering How to Feel God’s Presence? How do you worship at home?

I highly recommend spending time in praise and worship every day as part of your relationship with God. Spending time in praise and worship was a gamechanger for me.

On those days that I have limited time with God in the mornings, spending time in praise and worship is now a priority because it sets my heart up right for the entire day.

I usually pick a few songs and add them to play automatically on my Spotify playlist. I started off by listening to some of Spotify's Christian playlists (see more on these below) and then created my custom worship playlists.

Tips to feel God’s presence

If you are new to spending time at worship at home, try a few things and see what works well for you. This is how I spend my time in praise and worship and how I feel God’s presence the most.

These tips will also help you worship at church if it still feels awkward for you.

Stand up - Standing up while singing and praying makes such a difference for me. I feel more alive; and it helps me stay awake if my coffee hasn’t kicked in yet. So get off that couch and try standing up!

Sing out loud – I didn’t sing out loud for the longest time. Even when I was all alone at home, I refused to sing out loud. I used to feel so awkward and self-conscious singing out loud at church.

But now, I love it. And I love singing out loud in my living room every morning. Singing out loud to the worship lyrics is powerful. Even if you don’t know all the words, just keep singing. Make your own melody.

Lift your arms to the heavens – Lift. Those. Hands! I used to feel so awkward raising my hands at church. Growing up, I went to a Catholic Church where nobody lifted their hands in worship. And I thought people who lifted their hands were crazy when I first started going to a new church.

But lifting our hands, whether it’s straight up to the sky, or with our palms raised to the heavens, is a sign of surrender. It’s a symbol of worship as you surrender your life, your fears, your worries, and your desires to God. It also puts us in a position to receive God himself and his presence.

God wants all of you, not just a part of you. If you don’t know what to do with those hands, close your eyes and lift them to the sky. Nobody is watching, I promise.

Close your eyes – Closing my eyes helps me focus on God. It also helps limit distractions around me.

Now, if you worship in your car, closing your eyes may not be an option for you. But don’t let that stop you.

But if you are in worship at home or at church, close your eyes and soak it up. Picture Jesus standing in front of you. Surrender yourself to this moment.

Don’t hold back – Don’t worry about looking or sounding awkward. Don’t worry about how you sound if you don’t have the best singing voice.

Worship is between you and God, nobody else. Don’t hold back because you are worried about what others will think.

The more you praise God in worship, the more he will see your passion and heart for him. And the more you’ll feel his passion and presence in return.
