How to Pray for Your Future Husband This Christmas | Prayers for Your Future Husband

Thanks to God and the power of prayer, this Christmas is my first Christmas as a wife. My first Christmas with my husband.

While I’m still getting used to the fact that I have a husband, I will never forget how I felt around Christmas each year when I was single. Just last Christmas I was going into another holiday season single. Praying and asking God where my husband was.

If you’ve read my love story, you already know that almost a year ago my now husband finally asked me out. He asked me out after I had liked him and prayed for him for an ENTIRE YEAR.

Yup, I prayed specifically for the same guy for an entire year. I prayed, waited, prayed, cried, and waited some more for God to confirm the desires of my heart.

I was so sick of waiting and liking this guy who hadn’t asked me out yet. But I knew in my Spirit that God did not want me to ask him out so I chose to continue trusting God even when I didn’t feel like it. (Click here to learn more about why I waited for him to make the first move).

So I kept praying.

And girl, did God come through! God awakened my now husband at a Christmas party and we started officially talking on New Years Eve at church. We went on our first date a few days later and long story short, we were married nine months later.

I’ve seen God move in my own love story and I know prayer works. I know how hard it is to wait on God when nothing is happening. I know how it feels to be single for another year during the holidays.

But God is faithful. He hears your prayers. This Christmas, give your future husband the best gift he can receive. Prayers from you, his future wife.

Don’t give up praying. Don't give up waiting. Trust that God will confirm the desires on your heart.

"Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance." - 1 Corinthians 13:7

"So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up." - Galatians 6:9

Below are 5 ways you can pray for your future husband this Christmas, with 12 bible verses to declare over him.

Prayers for Your Future Husband this Christmas

1) His Relationship with God

You can never pray enough for your future husband’s relationship with God. Each one of us should never underestimate the power of praying for our own spiritual growth and relationship with God to get stronger.

His relationship with God is the foundation to everything else in his life. His identity. His purpose. Your future marriage.

Pray for him to get closer to Jesus this Christmas as he celebrates Christmas and Jesus’ birthday. Pray that he is intentionally spending time with God every single day. Pray that he is a man of God’s word and that he has fresh passion and fire for God’s word this season.

Pray for him to seek God in all that he does and that he will obey God’s word in this season. Pray that he fears the Lord and has a desire to obey him out of love and reverence.

Pray for his salvation and transformation in Christ. Your future husband may not have surrendered his life to Jesus yet. Pray for the strength and courage to give his life to Christ.

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” – James 4:8-10 NKJV

Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do.” – Joshua 1:7

“Praise the Lord. Blessed are those who fear the Lord, who find great delight in his commands.” – Psalm 112:1

2) His Family

Spending time with family and friends around the holidays can make the holidays so special. But some of you know that family may not bring the happiest emotions to light. There could be family drama. Offense. Rejection. Wounds that were never dealt with.

Pray for his family and that they are united this year. Pray that they have a loving relationship and are free from any offense or unforgiveness. Pray for any healing to have taken place from any hurtful events from the past.

Pray for a strong relationship with his parents and for their marriage. Pray that he has a Godly, healthy understanding of what marriage and family is like.

Pray that his entire family has received the gift of salvation and has a relationship with God.

“Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” - Exodus 20:12

“Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”- Colossians 3:13

“Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. 3 Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.” - Ephesians 4:2-3

3) Be Strong Against Temptation

The holidays are an exciting time of year but can also be full of temptation. Especially if he doesn’t have a strong relationship with God or is feeling lonely this time of year.

He may feel lonely and tempted to hang out with someone that isn’t good for him. He may feel tempted to watch porn. He may feel tempted to drink more. To text an ex.

Pray for God to convict him of any sin in his life. Pray that he will be strong and resist any temptation that comes his away. Pray that he flees and runs from any temptation or sexual sin. Pray that he focuses on God and his promises for his life instead of the promises of the world.

“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” - James 4:7

“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.” - Ephesians 6:10

“The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” - 1 Corinthians 10:13

4) Vision for New Year

Having and understanding God’s vision for his life is so important. Just like the Bible tells us, people without vision perish. If he doesn’t have vision for his life, then he’s more likely to get distracted or say yes to things that are not from God.

Pray for God to speak to him this holiday season, to give him vision for what’s ahead in the New Year. Pray for God to prepare his Spirit for the plans he has for him in 2021. Pray that if you are supposed to meet, get engaged, or get married next year, that God will give him that desire for you and for marriage.

Pray for God to open his eyes and heart to the plans he has for him. Pray for God to break off or remove any false beliefs or mindsets that are preventing him from stepping into the plans God has for him.

Pray that as a couple, you will have a missional marriage for God’s Kingdom, where your visions are aligned as husband and wife.

“Where there is no vision, the people perish…” - Proverbs 29:18 KJV

5) Be Awakened to His Future Wife

Last but not least, pray that your future husband will be awakened and will know that you are his future wife. This was the prayer I prayed the most for my now husband and after a year of praying, God answered my prayer.

God awakened my husband a year ago to show him that I was his future wife. His eyes opened at our Christmas party after serving together all year and he saw me as a potential wife for the very first time.

Pray that God opens your future husband’s eyes, that God awakens him and shows him that you are the helper, the queen, the Proverbs 31 wife that God has for him. Pray that he sees that you are the helper that God chose for him.

Just like Adam knew that God had created Eve for him, pray that your future husband is awakened and he will know that you are the woman God created just for him.

Pray that he will be awakened with such certainty, that he will pursue you with intention and purpose. Pray that he knows how to communicate and how to ask you out.

“For the first man didn’t come from woman, but the first woman came from man. And man was not made for woman, but woman was made for man.” - 1 Corinthians 11:8-9

“So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs[a] and closed up the opening. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man.

“At last!” the man exclaimed. “This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken from ‘man.’”” - Genesis 2:21-23
